Carnegie Lecture: Louise Whitfield Carnegie: 'The Lady of SKibo'

  • Andrew Carnegie Birthpace Museum Moodie Street Dunfermline, KY12 7PL Scotland (map)

The next speaker for the Carnegie Lectures is Dr Victoria Connor with Louise Whitfield Carnegie: 'The Lady of Skibo.'

Louise Whitfield was Andrew Carnegie’s wife and his partner in distributing his enormous wealth, yet there was much more to the woman than her relationship with her husband. This talk will explore the life of Louise Whitfield Carnegie, from her birth in 1857 to her death in 1946, with a particular focus on her time as ‘Lady of Skibo’.

Dr Victoria Connor completed her PhD at the University of Aberdeen and has worked at The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle for almost ten years. The Carnegies came to Skibo in 1898, and it remained in the family until 1982. Victoria was appointed as the Club's first Archivist back in 2013, charged with cataloguing the castle's historic artefacts and sharing the history of Skibo with members and guests. She has written extensively for Skibo magazine, and in 2022 authored a coffee table book commissioned by the Club, 'Skibo: A Storied Castle & Estate'.

Tickets can be purchased online, at the museum or call the museum 01383 724302 to reserve.

Doors open 6:45pm and if any tickets are available they will be sold on the door.
