Free New Year Heritage Guided Walk
The Annual New Year Heritage Walk will take place on the 2nd January at 1.30pm from the Mercat Cross in the centre of Dunfermline High Street. The walk is free and lasts approximately 1 hour followed by free refreshments at the Carnegie Birthplace in Moodie Street.
Education
School parties of all ages are very welcome at the Carnegie Birthplace where staff and volunteer guides conduct free guided tours (approx. 1hour 30mins).
A free Victorian package is on offer to Primary school pupils. They are dressed in Victorian costume and see life in Victorian Dunfermline through the eyes of young Andrew Carnegie. The Birthplace charts his youth in Dunfermline and his working career in America from cotton factory bobbin boy, telegraph operator and railroad developer to Steel King of America. Finally, the children take part in a Victorian object handling session and leave with tailor-made worksheets to complete at school.
Through its Education policy, the Museum aims 'to be a source of inspiration' as expressed in its mission statement: 'To document, preserve and conserve the collections and buildings of the museum; to interpret the manifold activities of Andrew Carnegie in the sphere of business and philanthropy; and, to be a source of inspiration to people of all ages.'
